View Full Version : Suggestions for jets?

Ok...so I've been driving my car for a while...a long while...and racing it on a carb that came out of a box with absolutely zero tuning.

When I get home at Christmas, I'm going to get the car dyno'd, and I'd like to take a change of jets with me to try it like it is right now, and then with what somebody else suggests.

Herein lies the problem: I don't know what jets are in the carb. I bought it from a board member, and now I can't remember for the life of me who I bought it from. I want to say it has like 78s? all the way around, but I'm not sure.

The combo is as follows:

.030 over 454
Steel crank. 7/16 rods, forged pistons
~10:1 CR
Crane Hydraulic roller, 236/242 dur @.050" .610/.632 lift
781 Heads, 2.19/1.88, professional bowl blend/port job. Performance valve job. I want to say they flowed 290 something, like 296 or so at .600 lift.
Weiand X-CELerator single plane intake
Holley 850 dp, only thing I've done to it was set the float level.

TH400 with 3500 stall, 3.73 posi rear, 28x10.5 ET drags at the track. Car has gone best of 12.1 at 111 so far, but I feel like there should be more left in it between the timing and fuel. Can anybody make a suggestion for what size jets to run in this thing, and where to set the timing for 93 octane premium pump gas?

Thanks,
Cale

Ok, maybe its got like 84s all the way around then....hell I don't know. The guy that had it before me had modified it to use on his small block. I remember it was a pretty hot small block, so it should have been pretty decently close to what I needeed, but I figured it can't hurt to play with it.

i'm running a 850DP holley on my 350sbc with #80 jets in the primary and #84 jets in the secondary .both metering blocks also have 4.5 powervalves.the squirters/pump cams are #35/orange primary and #37/red secondary.the only other mod done to it is a milled choke horn.

Cale,
if we do meet up to go to the track, I already have a full jet kit that you can borrow from. Not unless you're like me and just want to go ahead and buy one so you have it...
Just make sure you have the "blue" bowl gaskets and nylon screw washers before you go to the track so you can re-use them without leaks.
