Hey Everyone,

I have researched some of the web regarding a good performance muffler replacment for my crappy 30 series flowmaster mufflers.

What I currently have and hope to replace are:
3" inlet/outlet that are offset with an overall muffler length of 23".

Now, my question is, could anyone provide a good recommendation on a muffler that would outflow the current flowmaster mufflers I have considering some reasonable sound restrictions?

Thanks!

Hooker AeroChambers. those flowmasters u have I believe flow about 385cfm. The aerochambers flow around 441. I have them on my car nad they perform great. Nice deep sound, not real loud at idle but nice and deep when u get on it.

I hear the "pipes exhaust" mufflers are a good thing.

Give the Dynomax Ultra Flows a try!

Dynomax seems to be ontop of thier game. The whole line of mufflers flows great, and sounds great

If you want a quiter/milder sound look into the dynomax super turbos Or summit turbos for $15 each. They are the same as the dynomaxs

If you want a louder muffler look at the Dynomax ultra flows

You have to really watch cheap mufflers, they are coned down right inside the openings to make them universal.

Thanks for all of you replies. I shall investigate further based on your insight.

1978LT,
Dynomax Ultra Flows were my first choice but they do not provide a muffler that would directly replace the current offset, 23" total length 30 series flowcrappers I have now. I would have tpo modify my exhaust system to get them to fit. Would you know of an Ultra flow P/N that could work by any chance? Thanks!

CamaroMan79, aerochambers are my second choice so far. I looked into them an they seem to be a direct replacment for the mufflers I have now.

Magnaflow. Straight through, all stainless construction with mirror polished case. I picked up a set of 2.5" 14" case stainless Magnaflows off of a distributor on ebay for $65ea.

They are a lot quieter than I expected but it could be the sub 200hp motor currently in the car. My solid cammed 455 might be a different story altogether. Here is a link to some sound clips.

Dynomax Bullet Race Mufflers are probably your best flowing muffler out there. They are a glasspack style and do not offer much sound control though. If power is all you're looking for, go with the Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler. They will sound a little louder than a glasspack since they are ment for racing purposes.

If you want a little sound control, go with a straight-through style muffler. The Dynomax Ultra-flow is a very good muffler. In the data I've seen it is the highest flowing muffler out there. The Magnaflow mufflers are right up there too.

Both mufflers are available in many different sizes and can come in Stainless Steel if you like.

If you need only one end offset and the other is centered, go with Dynomax 17235. It has a 24" body length. Otherwise I would say go with the Dynomax Race Bullet or the Magnaflow.

The Dynomax flow 1133cfm I believe

I have summit's on my car now 3" no tail pipes with a mild 455 not too loud exept for the drone at about 1500-1700 rpm and of caurse w/the tremec and 3.23 gear that ends up being my cruise rpm so I'm going to look at a new cross flow muffler tha Pype's and Jim Hand are working on now it's based on dyno max ultraflows I need the ground clearance too cause I hooked a road kill once and didn't know it you can imagine the smell in the garage the nxt day LOL http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/eek.gif

The Borla Mufflers are hands down the best flowing units on the market.
The XR1's have the best flow, but tend to be pretty loud. h
The ProXS line is much cheaper, and quieter, but the flow isn't quite as good.
Both crush Flowmaster in the cfm dept

Here's a link to the PY string mentioned above. I does not appear Pypes makes this system yet but from the response, it's likely.

I've got Ultra Flo Weldeds on my 91 5.0 and they sound great. They've got great flow as well. Dynomax was having a huge rebate when I bought them and I ended up paying $35 ea after the rebate. I sure wish that I could've got 2 more to replace my Flowmasters on my Z28!

3" Warlocks. Fairly loud, not a flowmaster sound. 3 wing nuts on each one and they uncap. Then you have straight through.
