1978 Z28 350 bored 30 over. Competion Cam (Probably an RV Cam although has a nice lope to it) Edlebrock manifild. Carb is junk.

This is what I want to do

Edlebrock 600 CFM Carb (Emmisions Compliant)
Long Tube Headers
Mallory Distibutor

Now would I gain much by doing the following

Remove Fan and add electric fan
Add Alum water Pump
Aluminum Pulleys

This car will be eventually for show but I do want some ummphh to it.

Last and final

What HP can I expect out of this?

Some. Usually when you swap heads/cams/intake stuff like that give you the most gains. You will probably gain 20 HP with all the mods.
If your carb is horribly bad you will gain alot of power back from the carb swap

Instead of Alum Water Pump Install Electric Water Pump for HP gain. Some people say they are not for the street but I've had mine on 5yrs?

1972 Camaro 350 factory heads 1.94/1.5 street driven full interior everything works 7.5
91 mph

Most electric water pumps only have a so many hour life span. Thats why people dont use them in the daily drivers.... reliabilty

The electric fan idea is usually good for a noticeable gain. Aluminum water pump will only save you 7 lbs. and you may pick up a bit of cooling if you get a good one. Aluminum pulleys would help if they are underdrive pulleys, usually good for another .1 in the 1/4.

Im actually running factory pump with Moroso elec. motor and my car picked up .15 in the eigth mile dont no what that equates to in hp
and i did not really feel a difference on the street but .15 at the track is .15!

The fan will provide a noticable gain. You will probably have 180-200 rear wheel hp.

Elec fan won't 'make' more HP, but it will free up alot of top end power for sure.

Your average aftermarket electric water pump has a 2500hr expected seal life. If you were to drive your car for two hours a day, everyday.....the pump would last about 4 years. Even if driven as a daily-driver the electric pump would still last longer than a mechanical pump, I end up replacing mine every two years or so. Most of us don't drive our cars that often. I would say expect 5-10 years for the seal if the car is babied or is a trailer queen.

Even then, its just the seal that goes....not the pump. You can replace the seal with the pump still on the engine if I'm not mistaken. A replacement seal costs like 5 bucks and is easy to replace.

Most cooling problems occur at idle or slow speeds because of the lack of airflow to cool the coolant. At low rpm's the mechanical pump doesn't flow too great either. The beauty of an electric pump is that it flows the same at all times. So at idle it is flowing more than enough coolant.

Sure it puts a little drag on the alternator which robs a little power but it is nothing compared to a mechanical set up.

You'll enjoy the gains and you will make your motor more efficient. A few extra miles per gallon is not out of the question.

Same goes for the electric fan. It sucks in more air at idle which is where most of us have our problems. Again, the draw on the alternator is nothing compared to the inefficiency of a clutch fan.

Just by replacing the mechanical water pump and fan with an electrical....it wouldn't be uncommon to gain 2 or 3 tenths or more in the quarter.

I remember doing some sort of conversion factor between amps and horsepower before. I don't even remember how I did it, or if it was even right, but I remember 65amps being less than 2HP.

746 watts=1 hp

p/e=i
746w / 12v = 62.1amps

so if your fans draw 62.1 amps your using 1 horsepower.

disconnecting the field wire on your altenator with a switch will gain some et/mph
