Want to run this past some of you and see what your opinions are:

I installed the flexplate and starter on my motor this weekend, and when I ran the starter to check the alignment and tooth engagement I noticed that the flexplate "wobbles."

I removed the flexplate and cleaned the mounting area, but it still does it, so I broke out the dial indicator to see what I could find.

The flexplate is kind of wavy at the ring gear. There was about a .050" difference between the high and low spots.

Next I decided to measure the converter mounting pads, since that's where the real issue would be. That was much better, only .010" off, or so.

Mind you, the high and low spots are not opposite each other.

Ran an old Jeep with that for a couple years, lot of work to fix that old thing. On a Camaro I'd probably get after it pretty quick. Not a lot of money and you can put some long bolts in the tranny and back it up and usually get it changed without dropping it. If the converter is not running true you'd probably create a bigger problem in the trans at some point I'd think.

Right now the engine is on a stand, and nothing is bolted to the flexplate. So, it is easy to get to and change, but I had the engine balanced with this flexplate, so I'd rather not swap it if I could avoid it.

I'm thinking of mounting the engine on a cradle type stand, bolting on the converter, and seeing how it looks then. I think that .010" off isn't that big a deal. After all, it's +/- .005".

I'd bolt it to a converter and check it.

I'm with ZS10, bolt up the converter and do some checks, the ring gear is probably not going to cause problems if the converter bolts up and checks out ok.
