The air tube is designed to be connected to an air pump to increase the efficiency of the converter, if your car has the air pump, get the tube style.

If this is for your '86 T/A, then definitely get the air tube model. A working air pump won't cost you any hp.

The cat with the tube on the side is referred to as a 3-way with oxidation. It helps to further reduce HC/CO. Get it.

Actually a oxidation cat is a two way cat. The three way cat has, in addition to the oxidation "section", a reduction "section" to strip the o off the no2. Camaros didn't get 3 way cats until 93 or 94.

The air tube to the cat provides oxygen to the cat under certain circumstances. If your car has the tube now the replacement cat should have it also, if not, not.
