So I just dropped in a new 305 engine, replacing my original 305 engine. But this is my question... What are people's opinions on keeping the original engine (it would need to be rebuilt) vs. just scrapping it?

I have a 1980 Berlinetta camaro, everything is original on it right now besides the paint and now, the motor...

Interested to see responses/reasons. Thanks!

Always keep it if you can b/c some people go to great pains to make stuff back original if they can!!

(Like, i.e., worth more money some think!!)....

Buy an engine stand, buy some OE replacement parts and go through it over peroid of time. Clean the block up and put some fresh paint on it. You really won't have tha much in it, and if need be, you probably be able to get your money back out of it.

There are a ton of uses for the old engine.

Honestly - a 1980 with a 305 is never gonna be a collector's item.

The original 305 engine is probably worth more as a paper weight.

Just curious why you put a 305 in it. A 350 woudn't cost anything more and it would have been the exact same installation.

I picked the 305 up from a friend for 300 bucks...couldn't go wrong for that price!

although, I really wanted to beef up the car...I just needed to get back on the road for the rest of summer and a year or two so I can save up enough money for something that is worth really working on...
