i have recently have decoded the # on my cyl. heads and it was 333882 which decodes into 76cc chambers which sounds pretty crappy right? so im thinking of buying some inexpensive cyl. heads that would improve the preformance, im thinking something with a smaller cc so it would raise the compression. does anyone have any ideas for a good choice? its for a 355ci chevy and i would be buying fully assembled heads.

if you're running a 480 or less cam you cant beat vortecs for the price they bolt on and make great power out of the box

but the problem is i dont know what the specs are on the cam. the previous owner told me it had one but ya never know if there not telling the truth. it sounds like its got a cam to me but but im just guessing.if my math is correct it sould have 10.5 to 1 cr should i keep the heads that are on it or what?

and if i used vortec heads i would need to use a vortec intake also right, because i already have a edelbrock intake that i want to keep.

Whats your definition of "inexpensive" I paid $900 for my Edelbrock 64cc rpm heads and with 170cc chambers. Awesome torque and they put out twice the hp as a set of vortecs.

Really? Edelbrock RPM heads put out twice as much HP as vortecs? I was under the impression that vortecs flowed better than Edelbrock's head?

Some numbers I dug up on some website:
134-188-224-233-233 intake for RPM
139-190-227-239-239 intake for Vortec

vortecs and edelbrock rpm heads are quite close to each other flow wise in the real world . the vortecs have a more effecient combustion chamber though. ( I see in the new ads that edelbrock has revised the chambers but I havent seen any info on the new ones)

If you made 30 more hp with the rpms then you either a: didnt have it tuned right when the vortecs were on it or b: you made more changes than just the head swap. you at least had to do an intake swap too. or c: the dynoing was done on 2 different dynos or big DA changes ect ect.

Can you share more with us about your combo before and after the head swap please

thanks
Doug

Along with changing to the rpm heads i changed to a slightly larger cam (6 degress more on the intake side) and went from proformer rpm intake to a proformer rpm airgap

BTW my RPMS are the revised(newest) version

882s aren't that bad of a head. I'm running them on my 350 and am happy with them.

If you plan on pulling the heads, a cam swap is only a water pump and timing cover away. Might as well drop a known cam in there fell better about your combo. And a decent hydraulic cam can be had with lifters for under $200. Probably cheaper then that is you search hard enough.
