ok i have a new set of headers to install but if i do when i go to hte exhaust shop to get the duals done again the new headers are about 3 inchs shorter then the old ones so i can't ride 6 miles with what would be open headers with out a police escort!!! so what can i use to wrap or cover the gap between the exhaust and the headers just to get it to the shop???

If its only 6 miles just drive it, if you get pulled over tell the cop where you are going, shouldn't be a problem. If he wants to he can even follow you to confirm that your going to the shop.
what do you want to go with for a exhaust set up? My be cheaper to order one from jegs or summit and install your self than have a shop do it (they may wanna make you put cats on it)

Not unless your muffler man is screwing you in a mean way. I had my local muffler shop mandrel bend some 2 1/2 aluminized pipes from the headers to the 80 series FM (that I supplied) and then tail pipes for $125 and it looks damn good. Welds are pretty and he even made me a ball-flange style collector to eliminate the need for a collector gasket. I don't think Summit OR Jegs can come close to that.
As far as the 6 mile drive to the muffler shop. I'd drive it too. Better probably to do it 1st thing in the morning while the cops are busy directing school traffic or changing shifts. Even if you do get pulled over, be honest and tell him where you're going and offer for him to follow you. Unless he's a jackass, then he should let you proceed.

Get a business card for the muffler shop you're going to as well as an appointment for the day you're bringing it over. If there are any questions, have the cop call the muffler shop. Shouldn't have any problems.

I did this just last week.
I installed headers on my '95 Impala on Sunday night, then drove it about 5 miles open headers at 7:30am Monday to the exhaust shop, passing kids walking/biking to school, crossing guards, etc. It was damn loud too.
It was $50 to get it all hooked up to my existing Flowmaster catback, sans cats.
I don't think the cops should give you any trouble if you are honest, as has been said.
