A friend of mine is looking into purchasing one of these crate engines. He likes the power, price and the fact that it is basically plug and play. Have any of you guys had any experiences with these engines? Is there any issues with them? Thanks

A guy up here in Calgary, has one in his offroad rig. Has loads of power. I don't know of any on the street but I can see it being mean and nasty.

When it comes to a Camaro, forget hood clearance. They are pretty tall. If he's putting it into something with clearance then carry on. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

He is actually putting it in a 48 Buick. He just wanted to know if there were any reliability issues.

Unless you get a "bad apple" for some reason, nothing that I've heard of. I'm not really a big block kinda guy, but you'd think if they were blowing up with any regularity you'd probably hear about it on the internet. No such reports that I've heard.

GM doesn't just throw these things together and hope they work. Crate motors go through all the same reliability testing that production line motors do- including some rather brutal days-long wide open throttle testing.
