the raised side i assume. there is no markers other than felpro name in upper center, this is raised side. use copper coat spray as well right. and which head bolts go into the water jackets, or use thread sealer on all of them.

1094's are the rubber coated steel shims.
I wouldn't use copper coat on them, unless you read on the can/bottle of copper coat 1st. I know my can of brush on copper coat says do not use on rubber gaskets or seals.
I tried it once on a junk rubber intake end seal and it ate the thing up, just kinda melted it into a gloob of mess.
The embossed side of gasket goes up.
The coated shims really don't need any sealer, but you can put a small bead of RVT around the water port openings in gasket if you really have too, to put your mind at ease.

I read somewhere that usually with any gasket, head and intake, the name goes up.

I used the copper spray on my 1094's and no problem.
That stuff if hard as heck to clean up when it comes time to freshen up the motor again though http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/confused.gif

I contacted Felpro about putting sealant on these gaskets and they advised against it.
As for sealant on the bolt threads, I've used Permatex #2 (non-hardening) exclusively with great results for 35+ years with 100% good results (no head bolt leaks). I even got an 350 SBC out of the local U-pullit that leaked antifreeze. Found that whoever assembled the engine didn't use any sealant on one side and blue RTV on the other (white milk=oil+water in around both head's bolts). Permatexed the bolts (with new steel head gaskets), sold motor to street stock stock car--still running over four years later!
Also, put a couple of drops of oil (I prefer synthetic) under the head of each bolt to aid in letting them rotate easily=even torque.

put it together, used the permatex thread sealer on each bolt and torqued in 3 steps. no gasket prep, my deck and heads completely resurfaced anyways. that rubber coating is sticky to begin with. we will see, but i think it will be fine.

Used several 1094's , Sprayed with copper-coat and raw right out of the package.
Used on Re-ring jobs, with stock head and block surfaces. and freshly milled ones.
Never had a failed or leaky head gasket.
Lumpy side (embossed side) goes up.

For the head-bolts.
Good old Permatex, "Indianhead Shellac Gasket Cement", in the little shoe polish dauber bottle.
A little daub on the threads and schosh under each head!
Torque a couple to three times after heat cycling and you are good to go!
