Need to move the negatve battery cable which is grounded temporarily to the front right bank header mounting bolt. The 1973 assembly manual shows it bolted to the top of the alternator bracket. I don't have a hole there for it to be bolted to so where else is a good ground location to bolt it to? I don't have much length so unless I swap it for a slightly longer cable I can't make it to the water pump but can probably get to an alternator mounting bolt. Could also probably go down bythe fuel pump. Just wondered if anyone had a suggestion.

I mount mine on the front, pass side botton of block.. If you look at the front of your block over next to the fuel pump, but on front not side.. You will see 2 bolt holes. top 1 will have a bolt in it and bottom one will not. I clean the gease and paint off from around that bottom hole.. Then use a short 3/8" bolt through Battery cable end loop and tighten bolt into that hole.
Ground the engine good, plus cleans up the look of the engine bay by moving cable down and pretty much out of sight

As long as it goes to the block, you'll be fine. The intake is best as it is the next connecting piece to the distributor (this short path helps eleminate RFI). But any good solid, non rusting 3/8" bolt (reads, stay away from water pump bolts or the front two intake bolts) will do the trick

Make sure you have a ground strap going from the motor to the frame, and the body to the frame.

Frame ground is not so important as body ground. all the electrical components are grounded through the body, none through the frame. but the frame should be grounded non-the-less.

Moved the cable to that lower bolt by the fuel pump on the front side of the engine. Got the other grounds straps all taken care of in the correct locations already. Thanks everybody. Also tightened all header bolts since I was in that vicinity.
