started the z today only to have it keep dying on me. got a little backfire/fire out of the carb. put it out before it turned into something worse.

watched gas pour out of the top of the carb. it has a new electric fuel pump and new regulator set at 5 psi. it appears to be a holley 4150 series carb.

as you can guess i know nothing about carbs yet. but im thinking a stuck float. if this is it how do i go about fixing it?.

Tap on the float bowls w/ the handle of a screwdriver, that should work.

If not,put a rag on the intake and take out the 4 bolts on the front of the carb and pull it off, fuel will dump out and the float is right there. Move it around and spray some WD-40 on it. The bolt and screw combo on the top of the float bowl is the float adjustment...that might need to be messed w/ also.

Is this a new-to-you carb? Did you run a mechanical pump before?

It sounds like either a stuck float or, if this is a new carb, an improperly adjusted float.

If you need to take the bowl off, unscrew one of the 4 bolts, and drain the gas into a cup so it doesn't get all over the place. The gas will come right out the bolt hole.
