I'm buying a non running old 78 z28. She said she blew the engine by running the oil out of it. I plan on tearing out the block and making sure its not scorched and holey then having it bored. My dads the genius here and im just more of the grunt so he'll know what to do, but i wanted your guys opinion as well. I found two rebuild kits online. What do you guys think of them. what are they missing. are they the kits im looking for. and finaly what horse power am i looking at getting from these. thanks for your time.

ps im guessing i wont get much hp out of these what seem to be cheap kits to me but if i can get more for how much im going to spend it'd be nice. Also I'm thinking about spending around $600-800 to rebuild the engine. just thought id add that.

$600-$800 may not be enough of a total budget if it needs much machining. If the decks are warped, or it needs a line hone, or some other stuff, that money will add up pretty quickly. You may be better off finding another used engine.

I don't know if I would go for a rebuild kit simply because some parts of the kit may not be of any use to you.

Yah, I'm not sure how much the machining would cost or how bad a condition the block is, guess i'll find out. Good news is i have a free new radiator for it and a nice holly vacuum 7## for free as well. thanks for the advice about the kit.
