What RPM do you guys have your cars shifting at on a 350. I know this all depends on your power band etc. I'm getting my engine tuned in and it seems to be bogging when it shifts to second on a 350TH. Currently it's shifting at about 4k RPM with WOT. I'm still breaking the engine in so it's not a big deal. I'm just curious what other cars are shifting at with 350/350

At 4k, the timing wasn't even fully advanced on the stock LM1 HEI distributor on my '80...

There may be several things contributing to your problem. First, as Big Mouse suggested, the advance might not be totally in even at 4k so you would want to make sure the timing curve is set up and optimized for your combo. Next, if the trans is stock, it is probably shifting where the factory set it to for a low HP motor that wasn’t expected to see more than 4000 rpm. I believe that you can make adjustments to the trans governor to raise the shift points. You might want to ask this on the transmission and drivetrain forum to get a more authoritative answer. Since you have no stall (stock I assume) you are not getting the shift extension that a higher stall converter would give, and I suspect it is shifting just as the motor is really getting into its power band. Good luck.

I was making adjustments to the shift points, but I don't think I have it moved far enough yet. It was shifting really really fast. Now its better I just need to still get moved further out I believe.

What are you adjusting? The kickdown cable?

There is an adjustable vacuum modulator made for a TH350. You can go that route if you want more tuneable shift points.

Yeah Im adjusting that. The Vacuum modulator.

Vacuum modulator is NOT going to get you where you want.. The modulator is for part throttle shifts.

To rise the shift points under full throttle you have to adjust the governor. (driver side of trans, round cup with bell clip wire over it)

The governor is weights and springs in it.. Change the weight of the weights and tension of springs to change the WOT shift points.

I have mine set to shift at 6400 rpm on WOT up shifts.

Do a search in the trans topics for governor by the member Jakeshoe. He done a great write up with pics and step by step info on how to mod the gov. for higher shift points

Thanks for all the info.
