View Full Version : IR carb setup, Holleys?

I've been reading about the benefits of individual runner carb setups - increased low end torque, a steady low idle speed, better economy and a greater tolerance of long duration cams. However all the references are to weber and dellorto carbs, but what woould be the problem with usual appropriately sized holley's? I realise holleys work diferently and can't be fine tuned to the same degree (as standard anyway) and this is purely hypothetical. I'm picturing a pair of holley dominators on a plenumless tunnel ram intake.

thanks

Basically you hit the nail on the head- no intakes for that setup. Also, Holleys share a common fuel bowl and a common power valve between 2 bores and this might cause problems when you're trying to run individual venturis basically as separate carbs.

That would be a horrible setup. No plenum, small individual barrels on each carb would have very poor performance.

I figure the individual barrel on a 1050 dominator will flow 262.5 at 1.5 inches of mercury, which is comparable to a weber carb.
If a set of heads had max flow of 250 cfm (at 28in. H2O, or 2in. Hg) I'd have thought the carb airflow wouldn't be an issue, and that any problem must come from the way the carb operates. Top end power may be fractionally reduced but the bottom end might get a big boost. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I just like to think about these things. I'm sure manifold could be modified if the idea were viable

If you say so, but it's not that elegant.
