Is there any way to fit a big block, 454 or 502 without popping the hood. The early SS's came with a 396. Someone told me they came with a special "caved" intake mainfold to fit under the hood......

yeah, you can run a low profile manifold and fit under the hood. you might also need a sunken base air cleaner too. edelbrocks torker II works for sure, and i beleive that the weiand stealth manifold is low enough also. im sure that there a few guys here with even more suggestions. i just bought a cowl hood so i dont know all the tricks

I got a BBC to fit under a stock '78 Z/28 hood with an Edel RPM Air Gap, Holley, and drop base cleaner..

The only intake that I have been able to fit under a stock 70-81 hood with a Holley carb is a torker II #5061 or an old streetmaster or old street dominator...that with a maximum drop, drop-base air cleaner with a 3 inch element...

On the torker 2 intake, is it the old Torker 2-0 that the carb sits at a angle?. the reason I ask is I have one, a 396,big block frame stands, and 3310 holley that may find it's way into my 71. Jim

I don't know about the old torker II but the new ones fit under the hood

How important is a BBC to you? You cant always have your cake and eat it too.

Old style Torker II, where the carb sits at an angle will not fit under a stock hood...at least not with a Carter/Eddy carb. Dunno about Holley, but wouldn't think so. Which is kinda funny, cuz I got my A/C to fit, but not the intake. Oh-well.

The old style Torker is not the Torker II, The new style is the Torker II.
