Got a 468 BBC. It currently has a Carter AFB, but not sure what size....there are numbers stamped into it, but haven't found any place to decode it.

Question #1: Where can I go to decode the stampings on the carb?

Question #2: Pros/Cons about Holley style, and Edelbrock/Carter style carbs?

Question #3: How do I determine which size carb is optimal for my set up?

Question #4: How do I determine what size flow of a fuel pump to match the carb/engine combo?

I know this is alot, but I truly appreciate all your guys' input!

Please attempt to integrate all your related questions into one topic- multiple topics in the same forum- all essentially relating to the same issue/problem tends to clutter things up and minimize the response from people.

Your other two questions are gone- post them in here so people can see the "whole picture" in one place in order to give you the most complete/best possible answers.

If it were my 468, that sucker needs an 850 if you plan on spinning it up any. The Eddy/Carter only goes to 750 cfm unless you get the new Eddy AVS. The stamping number is on the left front of the carb.

Sorry about that Eric....I'll learn how it all works around here sooner or later, not a prob.

Keeping the same setup in mind...

Question #5: What should my timing be set at, and/or where can I find out what it should be set at?

Question #6: Drove the car from CA to TN. Have not made any adjustments to the carb, stil runs fine, but when I go to turn it off, it diesels and sends a puff of smoke out through the carb. Is this a screw setting problem, or is there something else I should investigate?

I realize that a book could easily be written on all the questions I have asked. I'm hoping maybe all these questions/issues will tie together in the end. Thanks so much in advance!

One of the best features to find what you are looking for is the *Search* function located at the top of the forums main page. Just type in a keyword like '454' and sit back and read pages of good info. If you are looking for specific information it's the best route to getting it instantly.
