has anybody else had this problem, i put a 96 lt1 in 71 camaro, everything is fine but my injectors aren 't firing. W/ starting fluid bypassing the injectors it runs fine, but w/out starting fluid doesn't crank. Any suggestions would be helpful. Got power to the injectors. and I THINK all my grounds. Thanks in advance. Ryan

Check the fuel?
How about fuel pressure?

Sounds like a Passkey problem, or Vats. A Google will outline the whole deal. This kills the starter, which you have probalby bypassed anyway, and shuts off the injectors, which can't be bypassed that I know of without the module.

i think you will have a to have a chip burnt to disable vats... or have your computer reworked or something like that

What are you running for a fuel tank and pump? Swapping a 95 LT-1 into my 79 Camaro

How should i disable that vats system? my starter is tutrning over and i can start it w/ starting fluid straight into the trottle body. for a fuel pumop im doin a walbro 255 inline, and stock fuel tank.

Whoa-wait a minute. First, it may just be one injector that is causing the problem. All of my experience with bad injectors is usually a single bad one that shows either a short or infinite resistance which in either case shuts the others off (computer actually shuts them off) You need to get a GM noid lite and connect see if they fire. Sometimes you get a single bad one or you may get several. The whole set works off the resistance level in the worst injector so when one goes bad, the others are "shut down" by the computer as well. If you have only one bad one, sometimes you can isolate it by starting the car with one injector harness connector disconnected at a time and the car can start and run until you re-connect the faulty one-then the car will die. Good luck. -Jabin

The VATS is the likely culprit. Give Painless wiring a call. They have a VATS bypass module.

For 1996, the Painless p/n is 64024.

You can do the cross reference in Painless' table below.

Ive seen plenty of bach fire GM cars with shorted or open injectors run when 1 or 2 go bad. If you get 3 or more bad ones the car might not start do to the missfires. Most efi cars will not run if fuel psi is too low, so I would get a fuel pressure guage on there and see what it says and compare that to a shop manual for a 96 camaro LT1. Start with the basics and work up from there.

Not sure if this applies to LT1's or not, but on my TPI electronics, if the ECM doesn't receive a signal from the distributor, it won't fire the injectors.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable about LT1's can chime in.

My other suggestion would be to double check your VATS bypass install. Then double check all of your grounds.
