How do I go about making sure my centrifugal and vaccuum advances are both working good? It seems like my centrifugal goes one way, and my vaccuum goes another... it's wierd. My engine is a stock, rebuilt 305, by the way

Let your car idle. Does it run o.k.? disconect the vacum line at the distributor. Plug the line. This should make the engine run a little slower. If it does your vacum advance is working. How well is to be determined by a timming light. As far as the mechanical goes if you can drive the car without any major pinging or bogging ect..., than it works. If not replace the weights and springs.
