I just took the engine out of my Fathers chevy, he bought the truck 5 years ago. The guy he bought the truck from said it had a 350 in it.I am planning on putting this engine in my 1981 camaro.

The only number I found on the block was 3932386, so can anyone tell me if I have a 350?

Thanks.

It should be 68-70 327 or 350. what is the numbers and letters on the other side of the block opposite where you got the 3932386 ,that will give you the month and year. Then what are the letters on the front passenger side of the block just below where the cylinder head bolts on.

On the small deck pad right above the pass. side top water pump bolt.

Post the letters back..

There is a image shaped like a clock on the back of the block, and the arrow is pointing to 5. Then beside that there is a 3.

J 9 8 is there also. Behind the flywheel on the pass. side the numbers are 636
678.

The last number I got on the front of the block was: V1211FL.

Thanks.

alrighty... you have a 1969 327, that originally came with a 2bbl carb and had 210HP and a turbo 350 transmission

that being said... if the engine has been modified its possible someone stuck a 3.48 stroke(350) crank in it... so it could be a 350.. if its all origonal.. its probebly a 327...

definitly a decent engine.. throw a nice cam in it.. with a RPM intake, a set of headers and a nice 4bbl carb... it should really wake it up...

The guy who sold the truck to my father said that he got the engine rebuilt, and he put in a different cam. But he also said that the engine was a 350 and had 300 hp.

But I'll be happy with a 327, I'm just happy it is not a 305.

Thanks again.

Yes, a good old CC 268HE or a Crane/Cam Dynamics 272/272 Energizer will really wake it up!!

If the engine is out of the vehicle and the transmission is removed, you can easily check which crank the engine has in it by looking at the flywheel flange. It can be confusing to try to describe the shape of the flange without pictures.

A 327 has a circular flange with two notches on one half of the circle, while a 350 has a similar shape but with squared-off sides. Most cast cranks will have some extra material hanging off the opposite side of the flange from the notches.

MFC, if your engine has its original heads (probably casting no. 3927185), they should have 1.72" int/1.50" exh valves and approx 70cc combustion chambers. While not really a "performance" head, on a smaller-inch engine they make a great street motor when coupled with a mild cam, Performer manifold, and 550-600cfm carb.

I have a '62 327 with very similar heads set up like this, and it ran happily on the street in a '74 Camaro for years. After switching to a 4-speed manual, I got 18-20mpg regularly out of that setup.

I checked the number on the heads and it is from a 1974 350/400.

So I guess the engine could be a 350, if somone changed the crank.

Some 400 heads came with 76 cc chambers and 1.94"/1.60" valves.
