jakeshoe 06-05-2007, 12:55:25 AM It being a CE block, this could have been a warranty or a crate.
If it doesn't include the heads, it is only worth what the block will bring.
I sold a 1968 IR code 427 L72 engine complete long block (iron rectangular ports, 435 HP, Tri-Power motor) a couple of years ago for $3500, but it took me almost a year to move it.
If it has a 1967, 68, or 69 date code block, and the right heads, he might get 5-8K for it, but if it is a later casting it isn't worth as much to a restorer.
rgearhead 06-05-2007, 01:24:38 AM ya jake its a running alum headed L88...heres what we figure so far this motor is in a 67 pontiac grand prix old time mild drag car now (can here it run)we think many years ago some1 wanting to go raceing ordered this creat engine and droped it in because it was cheap speed back then,, thats y im posting for my friend he Is all ponchco,,, cars he has this sieclops, a mint #s matching 4 speed white 70 trans am( you think a 70 z is worth moneyyes/ no) a #s matching 70 ta totally burnt out sold on performance years a few months back for 30k he also has a 69 gto he built for street/drag because it,s getting to riskie to run around in the TA,,,,,,
RacerRick 06-05-2007, 04:22:35 PM Being a CE block, I don't think its worth anywhere near what he is asking. If the casting is a 69' he might get lucky.
I saw a very similar motor sell for $7500 - it was a CE coded 427 done up as a L88/L89 motor. Had everything - the correct carb, intake, exhaust manifolds, and was very nicely detailed and low miles. It was pulled out of a very nice yenko clone car for a 540ci BBC. I can't remember the casting date of the block though.
It took him almost two years to sell it.
So, all I can say is "Good Luck" and he might want to try ebay to get top dollar.
muscl car 06-05-2007, 06:49:37 PM your best bet is to post this up over @ yenko.net , there's alot of members over there looking for stuff like that .
if you want i can create a link over there to this thread as i'm a member of yenko.net
rgearhead 06-05-2007, 07:17:58 PM thanks guy i will pass this info onto my friend....see what happens,,,
gordonquixote 06-05-2007, 07:24:12 PM The CE code means the engine is a over the counter GM crate engine and is a restoration correct part #. $12,500 is a stretch in my opinion but maybe somebody needs that exack block for a resto?
muscl car 06-06-2007, 04:14:58 AM thanks guy i will pass this info onto my friend....see what happens,,,

muscl car 06-06-2007, 02:31:22 PM The numbers after "CE" (Chevrolet Engine),stand for the year installed,and then the sequence number it was installed in rotation...i.e.CE172383:
1=Last digit of the year installed,,1971 in this case.
72383=Tonawanda sequence number
