There's a guy selling his World Products Sportsman 2 (2.02/1.60) heads, Holley Street Dominator single plane intake, Comp cam (.501"/.501" lift), and lifters for $500. The parts are still on his camaro, so I went with a buddy of mine to hear the motor run. The guy seemed pretty nice but then he tells me that he meant to put the Edelbock 650 carb in the ad and that he wanted $200 for the carb. I say "That's okay, I have a 750 Holley double pumper on my 355 right now (Stock truck heads with 1.72/1.5 valves, Victor jr. single plane high rise intake, 1.6 roller rockers, not sure what cam, 270 RWHP). The guy says "Oh, that's too much carb for this set up. I spent a long time on this set up and it puts out over 400 HP at the rear wheels(I'll ask for the dyno results). You need this Edelbrock 650". Now don't get me wrong, the engine sounded pretty mean but I'm having second thoughts. I didn't see any markings on the side of the heads saying that they were Sportsman 2's. If he doesn't sell them before Wednesday, how do I know I'm getting what he says he's selling? I know I can count on the members on this site. You have helped me before. Thanks, Greg

He's full of poo-poo if he thinks that combination of parts makes over 400hp at the wheels. I doubt that its even enough to make 400hp at the crank.

I will second what CarnDrvr said. Regarding the heads, IIRC the World heads have a "W" with a circle around it on the outside of the head. If i am wrong hopefully someone will correct me.

I have a pair sitting in my room right now, theres not really any markings on the outside to tell you if its Sportsman II's. Best way would ask the guy if you can pull a valve cover off and look for a circled W and a I-037.

Thanks for your advice. Is my Holley 750 too much for that combo? Can't I just jet it down?

It will be fine but no you can't jet a 750 to a 650.

That would be a good improvement from from your current setup, but I'd continue to save up and go new and aluminum. Mind you thats probably cheap enough, you'll easily be able to get your $ back....
The 750 would be fine, not 'perfect' but not worth worrying about.

400HP to the rear wheels with a Edelbrock 650cfm carb. That's a pretty TALL order. I've seen some pretty amazing things, and this could be one more of them. Pret-t-t-t-t-t-y amazing. ;)

Thanks again. I know you can't jet a 750 to a 650 but I think my carb would be fine. I'll give an update when I go look at the heads off of the car (if they're not sold). Still sounds to good for the price. I was thinking that set up would give me another 70-75 HP at the rear wheels. Does this sound more realistic?

There is an old saying,, there is no such thing as too much carb, only too little signal. Loosly translated, the intake charge will be sluggish if you use a carb that is massively too large. Slower low speed throttle response tends to make the motor feel like it has to 'spool up' to really start pulling. It's doesn't mean that you can't tune it properly,,, just that once in tune, it will not be as responsive as a carb more perfectly suited to the motor. That said,,, there are millions and millions of 350's out there with 750cfm carbs on them. Drivabiliy will probably not be an issue.

I did around 375hp on a eddie 650...at the crank.
I agree with Marv...hes a full of it. But the price is still pretty good. You could sell the cam (probally the old magnum 292 grind) and intake to bring the price down even more. Use your victor Jr. and get a good cam.
