Just got my car back on the road after installing a new fuel tank and starter. Well this morning, I started it up to go to work and it didn't start. Gave me a clicking sound from where the starter is. The way I got it started was jumping it, took a few seconds but it did. Just when I got to work, I shut it off. Tried to start it, but got the clicking sound. Did I ruin the starter?

The battery is a Die Hard and only had it for 3 months now. No problems with it until I replaced my starter which was 3 weeks ago. I had to jump the battery because of me trying to start the car after installing the starter. Well I burned up a starter, got a new one (love lifetime warranty) and installed it. Jumped the Battery, then the car started perfectly.

I checked the water for the battery which was low, so I added some. I think I added a little too much though because when I went to jump it this morning, there was some water on top of the battery. Did I ruin the battery that way?

Any help would be appreciated http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

Some more info I didn't put in the first time.

The Alternator has never been replaced since i've had this car. I don't think it's the battery or the starter at all. The starter comes through every time when I jump it, it's just the battery that's not giving me enough power to turn over the motor, which comes the Alternator not charging it while i'm driving.

I read a post by Redge and was really helpful. I don't think it's my horn since I took the horn wire out when I put my Grant steering wheel on. I don't have a horn set up.

Another thing it could be is when I put in my fuel tank, I left the fuel sending harness off since mine was damaged. I'm running without a fuel gauge until it comes in (ordered a new one). Would that cause a problem?

Since it sounds 'that bad' I'd take off the Alt and have it tested. Bet its shot. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

I think that's what i'm going to do. I remember I saw some exposed wires in the positive wire going to the Alternator. I wrapped it up with some electrical tape and haven't had any problems since. I think im going to replace that as well as the Alternator if it tests bad.

I tell ya, hundreds of dollars and weeks later, i'm going to have a new fuel and electrical system. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/eek.gif

Ok I found the problem!

The Alternator was fine, it was the wires that connect to the Alternator, the hot wire wasn't connected to the prong. It seemed that the previous owner crimped the wires inside the prong and wasn't seated in there properly. So I bought a new prong for $2 at Kragen, charged the Battery and fired right up. No problems since then.

Thanks for the reply rscamaro73
