I'm considering a new drop in crate motor for my '70 and was wondering if any members currently are running a ZZ4 engine and if so how happy are you with it? It seems like a good bang for the buck power plant without having to figure a matched combo from separate parts and vendors. I have a chance to buy one for about half price of what they go for new so I think it's a good deal that I shouldn't pass up.

Thanks in advance for any input.

GM warranty! hard to beat if you get it for 1/2 price. Be dumb to pass up.

I believe ULTM8Z has a ZZ4 in his car.

I have used these engines 2 times earlier..they work perfect and run strong.

The ZZ4 is a very nice combo for a street car, but do not plan on ever using Nitrous or a supercharger on it (Hyperutecnic pistons shatter under high cylinder pressures).
You will need to adapt for the 1-piece rear main setup, but that is just a matter of using the correct flywheel/flexplate.

If you want a good fire and forget combo the ZZ4 is hard to beat

You won't be disappointed with the zz4.

I bought a used one with @2000 miles on it, without the intake and distributor for $1500 two years ago.

I added a performer rpm intake, Holley 750 and my MSD distributor, took it to the track and ran a 12.80 @ 109. (muncie 4 speed and 4:10 gears)

The motor is still running strong, though I dropped .2 when I switched to the 2004r tranny, but I'm getting 20 mpg.
