I was considering the idea of going with an electric water pump and electric fans, is it really that much better than having a regular pump or is it just one big expensive hassle??

It's a hassle...... Stick with the stock fan and shroud. I would if I coud. Once you start messing with that it can turn expensive, and for what? 10hp MAYBE....

My car has run for 7 yrs +/- street driven on the same elec pump/fan and Ive never been happier with how cool it runs plus you can leave them on at the track to cool your motor between rounds. well worth it in my opinion. My car showed no noticable gains in et although I have seen others pick up 1-2 tenths. Im using the moroso pump drive kit and a junkyard fan.

I'm not a fan of elec water pumps or fuel pumps on street cars, Now elec fans are a diff story. I love them if the right one is used.

I stay away from the aftermarket elec fans due to mosty of them don't move enough air, and are not shourded. The best aftermarket ones are the black magic $200+ ones.. That BS to me.

Best fan I have found has been the dual speed ford taurus one. It comes from the bigger v-6 engine taurus in the late 80's to early 90's. It's a single fan with S curved blades, but dual speeds, low and high. It also has a full shourd.

Another good one is the LT1 4th gen elec fan. I have not used that one myself though.

Ran a "Proform" electric waterpump all last season, 1500+KM no issues, twin turbo motor @ 170* all day long with a gutted thermostat, Proform electric pump & Taurus fan on LOW speed.

I'd say go for it, but im biased :D

just think most "modern" cars run e-fan and e-fuel pump. there must be a reason. im going all 3 myself and have the fan setup. its a permacool and flows around 3000cfm. i payed around $210 for that and the thermostat kit from summit. had it on 3 cars now with no problems. as for the waterpump i want to do it but i bought the wrong one. if you plan on street driving the car in winter spend the extra few bucks on one with a provision for the heater hoses. mine doesnt have that.

I agree most modern cars are running elec. fuel pumps, but...
They are in the tank design, sealed off, non vented systems with return system.

Not extrenl mounted performance elec pumps.

The OE type are designed to last many many hours, miles, years in dail use..

The aftermarket pumps that most people use (holley blue and red, carter, etc) are not designed for that type of use, and won't hold out like the OE's will..

Remember your holley red, blue, black, etc pumps are DRAG RACING pumps. The dedign behind them and intended use is for short time frames..

On 5 min, off 15, for a night of racing.. Then not used again till the next weekend... Not ment to run for hours at a time like the OE's in todays mordern cars.

No i was going to stick with a mechanical fuel pump but considering the electric water pump and fans. Im seeing the fans as a good idea but still not quite sure of the elec water pump on a street car.

I think I saw somewhere that the expected life on one of those pumps was only a few thousand hours.. a few minutes with google -

"With regard to reliability, I believe that the Mezeire is the highest rated at 3,000 hours, and that point represents the 63% total average failure rate. This rate is fairly constant over the life of the assembly, so at 300 hours, you can expect about a 6 % rate of failure."

3000 hours? say you drive maybe 2 hours every day..

so about 4.2 years on a water pump. How long do you think a mechanical pump lasts?
You don't even free up all that much HP with a water pump..
Personally I'll stick with the model which lasts about a bazillion years trouble free, like the stock GM piece on my old 305 which still works perfectly.

Electric fans are a good idea though.
