Ok guys, I have a line on a set of upgraded Vortec heads for cheap. If they are in good shape and indeed Vortecs I will buy them in order to build a Vortec motor. This is where I come to ask all my questions to do with performance, so I figured today should be no different.

I was thinking of building a 383 with a forged crank and decent rods and pistons. I am on a pretty tight budget, so I won't get anything fancy, and to most of you this will be considered a "low budget build". What kind of power do the Vortecs make when paired with a 383? I am not real sure what the motor will go in yet, but I have a 1976 Camaro that it might just finda home in.

Or does someone have a better suggestion, or can tell me what to do on this 383 build? I know someone's gunna say "find a 400", but ever dirt track guy in 100 miles has bought all of them it seems. I really want a 400, but if I can't find one I can't build one http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/frown.gif

I know people here have built Vortec motors, what do you suggest? I am all ears.

For the power output a 383 Vortec engine will make, there is no need to look any farther than a 9000 series Scat crank and their capscrew I beam rods, both components close in price to getting stock parts machined.

See, I always know I can count on you guys for priceless information like this. These parts will go straight into the stock 350 block right? No additional machining required?
