after about 1500 miles since an oil change i checked the oil..well the dipstick i had in the car got cut off a while back...so i have a second one to check oil with, i put it in and it didn't read ANYTHING nothing no oil! not good so i put a quart in...maybe like 1/8in on the bottom, figure ok maybe another quart...then like 1/4in on the dipstick...am i maybe hitting something? that y the other one got cut off and y im reading nothing when i check the oil? but what would i be hitting? i think im gonna change the oil tomorrow b/c i think its overfull now and i dont want that but how do i fix the problem of it not reading on the dipstick.

Well I would dump the oil thats in there and change the filter, add 5 quarts (most SBC with a stock pan and filter only need about 5 quarts) and see what she reads. If it doesnt read then you have the wrong lenght dipstick and need to get one that will be long enough. If it does read then scribe a line where it is full and that will be your new full mark.
