View Full Version : Change rod bolts Mwilson 08-30-2005, 10:00:00 PM Anyone ever done this with the engine assembled on a stand? One bolt at a time? cody 08-30-2005, 10:11:00 PM i think you "should" get the rod resized when you change a bolt/bolts..ive never done it since this is what i always heard are you going from stock back to stock,or stock to arp? i know if going from stock to arp your going to have to resize the rods Camaroz 08-30-2005, 10:24:00 PM Yes, most definatly get the rod resized. Once you replace the bolt it will have changed the "roundness" of the bearing seat. I would reccommend taking it out first because they are pressed in and it will be a trick to get the old one out, not to mention getting the new one in. Steve Mwilson 08-30-2005, 10:25:00 PM Well i accidentally over torqued 4 rods so i know the bolts are trash. I could just go stock to stock if its less trouble? I just pain to have the darn rods re-sized! cody 08-30-2005, 10:43:00 PM just curious, how much did you overtorque them? ive changed stock rod bolts before but it was a long time ago.if i remember correctly you can get the threads to come though just enough to get the nut on so you can pull it through,IIRC. rustbucket79 08-30-2005, 11:52:00 PM The problem with different rod bolts (ARP wave locks are ABSOLUTELY the WORST!!) is they will/can shift the rod cap in relation to the rod. I suggest you pull the 4 damaged rods out and have new stock bolts installed and resize them. ------------------ Custom Auto, your source for quality machine work, cores and new parts at competetive pricing right here in British Columbia 1-888-563-4050 A Canadian, EH? Yes, stuff moves around when you install them but once that's been corrected it stays put forever. rustbucket79 09-02-2005, 11:15:00 PM <font face="Arial,Verdana" size="2">Originally posted by Damon: Rust- the reason you hate WaveLocs is exactly the reason I swear by them.
