Hey guys ive been getting some backfiring threw the card on my 406 in my 80z. The carb is brand new, and good plugs, wires, and distributer. I tried to set the timing a while back but seems like it still backfires here and there threw the carb. also from a stand still when i punch the gas all the way down it will either almost kill, backfire threw carb, or kill. Seems to idle fine by itself, anybody have any ideas?

backfire thru the carb indicates you're going lean. you need more pump shot or a different power valve

What kind of carb? Sounds like its a simple Accel pump adjustment

Ok after some tuning of the carb a little and a fresh new set of plugs it seems to be resolved from todays test. I have a 750 holley dp by the way. Ill let you know if it starts back up I was only able to take it out for a lil bit

Ok after some more passes it seems that the backfiring completely is gone. NOw for my new problem. I get a hessitation and a ruff choppy dirty idle whenever I hammer the gas. Like a quick bog. It does this off the line and also while moving. Is that a jet issue maybe?

Sounds like a classic accelerator pump issue. Goes, bogs, goes = you need one size smaller discharge nozzle to extend the lenght of time of the shot. Bogs, goes = you need one size bigger on the discharge to get more fuel in sooner.
