I've got a 71 Camaro SS 350 4bbl with a 3 line Fuel Pump.

I just bought a new tank through YearOne a few days ago since the old one had a hole in it. So I dropped the tank and pulled the Sending Unit out and noticed that the Fuel Strainer had blown out.
Well I said screw it and bought a new Sending Unit and Strainer so I wouldn't have to be pulling it out later in the future.

The question I have is the Sending Unit I pulled out had 2 lines. The new one I ordered from ClassicIndustries only has 1 Line. They didn't have a 2 Line so I ordered the 1 Line. They said it was for smog reasons so i'd have to plug it off. Will this work like they said? I have no idea what the Canister actually does if someone could explain it to me.

Thanks!

I took out most of the emissions in my car and i have the 2 line setup from my sending unit. the line will be located on the firewall on the drivers side. this is only a vent from the tank, which i was told to keep uncapped due to pressure buildup. the new unit prob doesnt need it, hope it helps

Thanks for the reply!

Ok, so i'll disconnect the Line to the Canister. What does the Canister do? Can I remove it?

The cannister stores gas fumes from the tank. when the engine is started it burns those fumes.
You can remove it, but the tank will have to be vented....vented gas cap.

What's the pro's and con's of using a Vented Gas Cap? Would there be a gas smell from the rear of the car or....

Sorry for the questions, just want to understand it a bit more.

Thanks http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

71 SS. Ok I pulled the Canister out and left the vapor line open for now.
The old Cap I had on my old Tank looks identical to the Vented Cap at YearOne.com #3195N. The question I have is does anyone have this Cap? If so, is there a hole in the middle on the opposite side of the Cap? I'm going to Napa tomorrow because there's a guy that would fit my old cap to a Vented Cap that hopefully they'd carry.

Thanks!
