I bought a pair of Edelbrock valve covers, the tall ones. They came with oil baffle plates. I was wondering if I need to use the plates or not.

Yes - you need to leave the baffles in. They keep oil from slinging into your breather & pcv system. You may have to take a pair of pliers and pinch the baffles to clear some roller rockers but do your best to keep them. My reply is assuming you do not have an aftermarket crankcase evacuation system.

Do yourself a favor, take an allen wrench and twist out those fake plastic bolts in the top of the cover. Drill and tap, and put a real 1/4" -20 allen head, button head, or champher the hole and put in a taperseat bolt. It looks a hell of a lot better than the empty holes your going to see in just a few thousand miles. I don't know what type of glue they use on the plastic bolts, but it sure isn't very tolerant of heat and vibration.

Yea, those fake allen heads are a fing joke. I bought a set for $70 bucks, and withen 3 months, got rid of them cause I was pissed at how cheap they looked with some of the fake bolts missing. Kind of a ricer part for small blocks imo..Johnny

Good advice on those screws Marv. After 18 months I had lost 15 or more of the plastic ones so I drilled & tapped the hole & installed stainless steel allan bolts. I think they look far better anyways.

Thanks for the info. I'll replace the bolts with real ones.

did you drill all the way through to the inside of the covers, or does it actually drill into the sidewall? i have those same covers and lots of the plastics have fallen out... anyway, i guess the look of those covers are imitations of the ones with real removable tops, and that's why they used crap plastic...
