View Full Version : vacum sec or mechanical? double pumper or street avenger?
spaman 05-22-2007, 12:49:37 PM I'm building a stroker 383 that should be in the 450-500 hp range. Manual trans with 373 gears. I'm going with the 750 cfm, but I hear pros & cons on the avenger vs double pumper, vacum sec vs mech. whats your take on this thanks.
rustbucket79 05-22-2007, 01:03:03 PM Street car and/or looking for gas mileage, vacuum secondary
Drag racing 80% or more or max HP wanted, mechanical secondary
spaman 05-22-2007, 01:05:16 PM Street & strip. This is just a weekend ride. Not that concerned with economy but i want the most performance with least amount of trouble.

K5JMP 05-22-2007, 01:08:44 PM 750DP w/ four corner idle and annular discharge. Pricey, but worth it...;)

Bingo! More affordable than what I am running... but a good performer nonetheless.

I like the Barry Grant 850DP with annular discharge venturis... this article will help answer questions better than I can...

The annular-discharge venturi booster has a larger ring with multiple discharge holes rather than the single outlet hole of the straight-leg or down-leg style of booster. This has the effect of creating a venturi within the main venturi that produces greater vacuum than either the straight- or down-leg varieties and draws even more fuel.
Was Mike on Pinks? I guess I missed that one:screwup:

Mwilson 05-22-2007, 02:40:32 PM I was just another loser! there are so many carb options I guess it really comes down to what you want to lay out for one theres nothing wrong with the old tried and true 4779.
shawntmartin 05-22-2007, 03:58:00 PM Did you really lose your car? I just wanted to know if its really the way it goes.
shawntmartin 05-22-2007, 04:04:44 PM spaman,

Mwilson 05-22-2007, 04:25:58 PM great job on the car I looked through your album at the entire build

Agreed with Doug. I *really* liked the throttle response and driveability of the Holley 750 vacuum seconday (3310). I cut off the choke horn and did some basic mods to the carb and it is one of the best carbs I ever had for a street car -- even ran in the 11.70s with it.
