Would anyone trust the crate engines on ebay. Think they are reliable and actually put out as much horse as they say?

Camaroz 08-03-2005, 05:04:00 PM I do not trust anything I cannot put my eyes on and check out. At least in that money catagory. I would check all the locals first, and if you cannot find what you want that way then I would consider branching out farther before just taking someones word on the Bay. Just my .02 Steve badazz81z28 08-03-2005, 08:07:00 PM I say buying an engine on ebay is no different than buying a car. I would make sure I was close enough to check it out before I paid. Not everyone is crook ChillPhatCat 08-03-2005, 09:09:00 PM I bought my car on ebay without issue... I made sure it was close enough to drive to the next day though, I went down to check it out before I gave the guy the $1000 deposit he said was due in 48 hours. I figured I'd rather get a negative feedback for retracting if necessary then lose $1000... the car was better than expected though, so it worked out fine. ------------------ 1974 Camaro Type LT, 461 BBC, Worked Heads (2.19/1.88 valves), Forged Internals, 10.5:1 Pistons, Mild Cam (approx .500/.500 lift), Headman LT Headers, Holley Projection, Edelbrock Performer RPM Manifold, Timing Gears, 14x3 K&N, Dual in/Dual out Flowmaster 80 Series. I bought a 383/440hp motor from them. Their feedback seems to be good. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZarracingunl sandboxbob 08-06-2005, 08:54:00 PM I didnt read anywhere how they came to the conclusion of how many horse power the engine is putting out. Did they figure it on a Dyno disk 2000 or a real dyno? I would ask for the Dyno test sheet for that particular engine. cheez22 08-09-2005, 08:15:00 AM I'll be getting a dyno soon on mine. They just opened a dyno shop less than a mile from me. I think I need to break in the motor a little more, though. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/5/web/497000-497999/497186_2_full.jpg the_camaro_kid 08-09-2005, 10:39:00 AM Yeah all the crates on ebay that say how much horsepower and torque they put out. Were done with the dyno 2000 computer software. I don't know how accurate that is, let me know how much actual horse your putting out after it gets dynoed, just curious, thanks. 71inCR 08-09-2005, 10:46:00 PM I dont see how buying a crate motor off ebay would be any different than buying one out of a catalog. KWIK 73 08-10-2005, 10:59:00 AM I've considered buying an engine online, but I'de prefer to buy one locally for 2 reasons. 1. You'll save a couple bills in shipping alone. 2. If you have any trouble or need a tweek, the local shop might be more apt to have better service after the sale. ------------------ 73 Camaro RS, LT Type (http://tigernet.missouri.org/~g6007/camaro/73camaro.html) | 69 Camaro (http://tigernet.missouri.org/~g6007/69camaro/index.html) | 57 Sedan Delivery (http://www.cardomain.com/id/kwik69ss) | 93 Z34 (http://members.socket.net/~g6007/temp/93z34.jpg) | 95 Camaro (http://members.socket.net/~g6007/95/95cam.jpg) sandboxbob 08-10-2005, 12:42:00 PM I would prefer building my own and that way I have know one else to blame but my wife!
