engine 08-20-2005, 11:16:00 PM let's start out with what you have. What is your timing set at, and at what rpm is your total in by?
1977camaro owner 08-20-2005, 11:27:00 PM Timing set at 38* At 3000 Rpm But seems to hav Alot of initial And the Car runs Hot as Hell I have one of the Dial Timing lights it doesnt seem to come in quick enough
1978LT 08-20-2005, 11:34:00 PM What the hell you got that weighs 4000 lbs....an old '70s Grand Prix? http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif
First, ditch the Torker II and get a Performer RPM intake. That alone would have you knocking on the 14 second door I believe.
With HEI's I like the Crane kits. You get an adjustable vacuum advance and a combo of springs. Shoot for around 14 degrees of vacuum advance to start with.
If your engine will take it without pinging, I'd try 36 degrees of total advance (vacuum advance unplugged) all in at 2800 or so, which should give you 12-14 initial depending on which distributor you are starting with. With your combo of parts, 13's should be cake! Good luck!
1977camaro owner 08-20-2005, 11:39:00 PM This car last year with nothing changed other than putting on a MSD 6A THis year ran 14.20's And then went 13.95 and 13:81 respectfully I was hoping to resume this year from that point To maybe 13:50's
I think the holley may need atune up Maybe
running lean seemed to be popping ever so lightly at the 1/4 end Shifting At 5500 and going thru the traps @ 4500 Oh ! buy the way that was with an elelbrook performer 180* Intake we Changed it Back to the eddy torker THis is a 1977Camaro 3825 lbs without the driver P.S. 26 " slicks And Hei Ign.

1978LT 08-21-2005, 12:45:00 AM WOW you lost 1.5 seconds over last year??
Yes, I'd rebuild the carb for sure. Holleys are bad for shrinking metering block gaskets.
Also, make sure (you probably have already) that your advance curve is working good and smooth, and is all coming in when it should.
Consider retorquing the intake. Those darn gaskets relax over time and can cause big time air leaks (could be your popping!).
Go from there and report back http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif I'm curious as to this 1.5 second loss, heat and humidity or not! I KNEW you had 13 second potential, as you've already shown. Now it's time to find it again before the season ends!
1977camaro owner 08-21-2005, 06:19:00 AM Last years times plus all this years runs aren on the performer 189* intake I guess my question Was should I re install the 360 Open plenum Torker Its not atorker 2 it's the older lo rise verson and Suooosidly it is Good in the 2500 - 6500 range where as the performer is 0- 5500 I thought the torker would better match my cam And Stall
I did'nt mention this is a 357 cid engine .040 over with flat top KB pistons . Maybe the torker is no good as David Vizard said to be wary of the old x Brand manifolds what if I put in a spacer plate would that help the torker Intake or is it
garbage

1978LT 08-21-2005, 08:22:00 AM I wouldn't care if it were the new Torker II intake, it has no business on that engine, IMO. In fact I'd go Performer RPM OR AirGap, or Holley 300-36!
Also, regardless of converter speed, I've found "the quicker you can get it in up til 2800" is best. Any quicker and you will have a flat spot in the midrange. This doesn't apply to manual trannys, they love all the advance they can get! HTH
1977camaro owner 08-21-2005, 09:55:00 AM Thanks for the info I guess the Performer RPM will have to be ordered it is the easiest one to acquire where I am located

1978LT 08-21-2005, 10:23:00 AM Recurving is easy. Basically, buy the Crane kit and the instructions with all the springs vs. advance curves are included. Personally, I like 22-24 degres in the distributor. If there isn't enough, disassemble it and grind the stop slot further. If its too much (as in my case was), I had to MIG weld it and regrind it.
Regardless, shoot for a max of "all in" by 2800, but don't go any higher than around 3500.
1977camaro owner 08-21-2005, 10:43:00 AM Thanks 78LT For all your info I guess I have My Work Cut Out For Me Monday And Tues We T &T at 7 PM Here in PEI But it starts to get dark At 8;30 So we only Have 1.5 Hours to play with our toys Ill Post aon this thread Tues night or wed A M how we faired out By THe way What MPH should I expect from my set up Just an Estimate Will do . 1977camaro owner 08-21-2005, 08:47:00 PM I got some free time this afternoon and wentto my shop which needs a major cleaning I found 2 HEI distributors One is sloppy in the bushings the other one cleaned up fine No play only upand down I will have to shim It and putin a pickup from my other one I could'nt get the pin out at the cog As some one broke off the proper punch I will pick one up tomorrow and complete the rebuild I can only find a moroso spring kit for now its only $8.00 I will order a crane setup as they sell them but dont stock it in their shop. Hopefully the springs are close in tension to the crane Hope to have that done tomorrow Night and we can road test it for detonation Planning on rebuilding the carb on tuesday if it's no better tuesday at T & T I may shoot it.
