I bought a new single groove billet power steering pulley. The stock pulley has two grooves and I only have one belt which rides on the forward groove.

Question is, when I install the new billet pulley, will the belt position be the same as the forward groove or rear groove? I suspect it will be the same as the rear and I will have toget a pulley that has two grooves and only use one as in the stock configuration. I thought maybe I could make a spacer if it sit too far back.

Second, my pump is a the keyed type. I think I can get it off with my generic puller. Does the pulley get pressed on with the keyed type pumps or will the nut press it on all the way?

PS pump single groove or rear groove of 2 groove pulley alines with rear groove on the crankshaft pully.

You can use a single groove PS pully if you have atleast 2 grooves on your crank pully.

A belt goes around crank pully and PS pulley on the rear groove
Then another belt goes around the crank pulley, water pump pully, and alt. pulley on the front groove.

The Keyed PS pulley will pull on with just the nut.. What I would do though to keep from marking up a nice billet pully is install a rubber washer, then a larger flat washer, then the nut.. Press pulley on by tighten then nut.. Once on, then loosen nut up, and take off the large flat washer and rubber washer.. Put your nut back on and tighten.

OK Thanks. The pulley wont work because I am not using the rear groove. I will take it back tomorrow and get a double groove.

I bought this today at the annual Monroe, WA car swap meet,. There are some really decent prices there, and it is absolutely a huge 2 day swap meet.

I went out and looked at my car and now I cannot tell if it is keyed or not? I have not removed the pulley yet.

Is there any way to tell if it is keyed or not without removing the pulley??

FYI - thanks for the install tips, it sounds like the way to go so it does not get damaged.

Thanks

If there's an actual nut on the stock PS pulley, then it's keyed. If no nut (just a hub with a groove on it), then it's not keyed.

Thanks, there is a nut. You just saved me $30.00 and a ton of frustration.
