I am thinking about running my engine with the LS1 firing order. (18736542 instead of 18436572, otherwise known as a 4/7 swap)
Anyone have information on what the advantages/disadvantages are?
I was under the impression that the idle got smoother and the powerband was also flatter as well as crank harmonics getting reduced, but the engine will also develop lower peak power. (Higher average, but lower peak?)
I am going to buy a cam soon, so now would be the perfect time to decide if I want to experiment.

TIA

I purchased a 4/7 swap cam from Howard's. It was an additional $100 more for a solid flat tappet cam. I have also heard the reasons you mentioned, but have never heard anything negative except for the additional cost.... The engine will be fired this weekend and raced on the 3rd of September, I can give you an update then...

I thought I'd give it a try..... It's in a 408" small block.

If you are not racing and trying to squeeze every HP out of an engine, your $100 may be better spent on something else...
