Good day to you all.

I have a couple of questions regarding the carb that I need to get for my Vortec enjine.
I am installing a Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap intake manifold and want to know what is the best carburettor to get. I have been looking at two options, but can't really see why some would say the one is better than the other. Also I just need to mention that everything else is stock on the enjine (350/5.7l)

The two carburetors I am looking at is either the Edelbrock Performer 600cfm or the Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS 650 cfm. The only thing that bugs me a bit after some people told me its better to go for the 600 cfm carb is this: (Extracted from the Edelbrock site) "Designed for small-block and small displacement big-block engines, these carbs are recommended only for stock to Performer level applications. They are not recommended for use on RPM or Torker II intake manifolds."

That extact there bugs me a bit, so I started looking at the stats of each carb, here they are:
Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carbs:
Metering Jets – Primary .098, Secondary .095; Metering Rods – .075 x .047; Step-Up Spring – yellow (4" Hg)
Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS 650cfm Carbs:
Metering Jets – Primary .095, Secondary .098; Metering Rods – .068 x .047; Step-Up Spring – Orange (5" Hg)

Accordign to those stats it looks to me like the are both using the same Jets, they are just swopped around. As you can propably see, I dont know too much about this and am in need of some assistance regarding this topic. Is there really going to be such a major fuel consumption differance between those 2 carbs???

Another question I got is what distributor would be good for this setup??

Thank you all in advance for the much needed feedback :)

CAll Edelbrock and ask them what they think and then post back because I'm curious why think a 600 shouldn't be on an RPM. I have an Edelbrock 600 on mine and works wonderful. And it is on top of the RPM manifold. Get an HEI distributor from Skip White's performance store on Ebay. He is great and will not screw you over. They are like MSD and Accel clones with performance curves, brass terminals, 65,000volt coil, hardened gear, 3 year warranty, the whole nine yards for under $75. Thats what I have and its worked great for two years now. He is an actual performance shop, not just a guy selling out of his garage.
Here, read the whole auction and you'll see he's not selling a piece of junk. I've had this distributor for 2 years and it works great.

Im planning on getting a performer rpm air gap intake for vortec heads and a 750 cfm manual choke. Would this be a good upper end setup?

Want an extreme energy cam from comp and speed pro domed pistons on the lower end

You'd be better off posting that as a new post instead of at the end of this thread. But yes, that sounds good. The performer rpm air gap is one of the best, IMO.

Just another question regarding this plz :)
Is the coil included or must the coil be bought seperately, I know som of my questions must be totaly stupid, but seeing that I am sitting in Africa, I need to get everything in one swoop or else import will kill me

Thanks for the feedback already :) its much appreciated

Regards
Jacques

Shawntmartin thanks for the link again :)
I will propably get that distibutor and maybe some other trick bits from them.

I see that item is now on a special for $42.50 :) so hopefully the import etc. will not knock me too hard
