Got a question for you guys, Ive got a 81 z28 with the AIR system and would like to pull out all the plumbing for this system. Would it be ok to do this and not hurt the engine? What would I use to plug the holes in the exhaust manifolds? Is there a AIR pipe that runs to the cat and if so what would I use to plug that?

I know I will have to buy a shorter fan belt from a engine that doesnt have this system and hopefully I can get one from autozone if I can go this route without hurting the engine.

The plugs for the exhaust manifold air injection tubes is a 3/8" inverted flare plug. You'll have to go to an auto parts store for these as the standard hardware store variety will leak. Be sure to remove the smaller insert tubes and add a dab of anti-sieze on the plugs before you install them.

The other problems you need to face are the EGR valve which you could just leave there and disconnect the vacuum line. Also, if the car has the computer controlled carb there will be issues running and idling smoothly after removing part of the emissions controls.
