My BB has an aftermarked oil pan and did not come with a dipstick. How do I tell how many quarts to add? The pan looks like several in my Jegs catalog and they vary as to how many quarts they hold.

Will a big block dipstick read correct, nevermind what oilpan it is in? When I order a dipstick, do I have to specify how many quarts of oil the pan holds? If so read first question - hahaha

One way of doing it is to use the stock dipstick. That will give you an oil level that GM found acceptable. Any higher and the oil might be too close to the crank.

not that i would be able to tell, but maybe if you take a picture of your oil pan someone might be able to tell you what size it is. im surprised at the knowledge some of these guys and gals have on here.
