How can I tighten the rod cap after I pull the crank. Or while the crank is still in for that matter. Trying to avoid pulling heads till end of season. I think the rod bore is ok but I need to torque down. any advice on this one?

I'd love to hear a good technique for this too.

How would you ever torque the rods when there' not attached to anything???????

Ther is only one way to do it right.

Are you trying to check the size of the big end? If so you can try using some plastigage I suppose. But I guess you could also use a monkey or cresent wrench and have someone hold the rod while you torque it with the crank out...maybe could do it in with the crank spun out of the way. Then when you get the required torque you could check the size. Considering that when the rods are torqued the bearings never actually 'touch' the crank this should work.

I did a 2.8 crank job without pullin the rods and it ran great, did nothing but abuse it after and it just kept going. I know this is a procedure Im just wondering how they do it.? If the rod checks in at its .00025-.0005 service limit roundness WHY pull it out? GM sets the limits.
