could anyone tell me the original colour the block was in an 80 z28?

Light blue from around 1975 to the mid '80s I believe. Plastikote makes the exact paint for it.

Does that mean that the correct color for the engine of a '75 350 Camaro is blue, not orange?

No, it was orange in '75. I believe blue is from '77-'81.
