the sleeve goes over your harmonic damper to repair the groove thats worn on the shaft of the harmonic damper there is usally a lip that would be on the sleeve so you would have something to drive a pusher against, youll have to find a tube thats the same size as the sleeve and use it to drive the sleeve on and it would help if you use some heat to the sleeve and expand it heat gun would work good. also use some sealer between the sleeve and balancer

ahhhh, i see. could you install it even if you didnt have a leak there, you know just for good measure?

what sealer is needed? do you apply it where the sleeve and balancer make contact?

If you put anything on it,you probably wont get it on.Its a tight interfence fit.Sometimes a mofo to get on.

Years ago I bought one of those harmonic dampener sleeves and it came with a small tube of Loctite. Might have been #241. They recommended putting it on to keep any oil from seeping out between the dampener and sleeve.

i checked the box and found this tube. is this the sealer applied inside the sleeve?

Yes, that's probably what it's for, or to seal the bearing shell in the cover (or both!)

Before you sleeve the balancer try something simple first- use some very fine grit sandpaper or emery cloth and wrap it around the balancer snout and give it a few turns. What can look like a groove might not be, or it might be very very slight- sometimes it's just caked-on oil goo and dirt. I've cleaned up dozens of old balancers this way and only once resorted to a sleeve to get it to seal up. Besides, you want a nice clean, burr-free surface there if you end up using the sleeve anyway.
