Does anyone know how the tubing inside the gas tank is "wired"? In other words, what connects to where inside the tank? I am getting fuel pissing out of the original vapor vent line. I plumbed my return line into one of the other lines on the tank to the passenger side, and kept the vent on the driver side as it was originally. If I had to take a stab in the dark I would say that these lines are connected somewhere in the tank. This is the only thing that makes any sense.
If you displace fuel from the tank, consume a portion of it, and return the rest to the tank, this should place a slow suction on the vent line, no? After I shut it off I looked under the hood and sure enough it is pissing fuel all over the fender, right by the header! http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/redface.gif
No wonder my mileage has been suffering so badly. I thought I had a minor fuel slosh when I stopped hard, because I only smelled it when I was stopped. Nooooo! Not so.
So, anyone know how it is put together?

Might be some trash clogging things up inside the tank, trash from the fuel that has been pumped into the tank over the years, or maybe the fuel screen has taken a dive into the tank.

Trust me, anything that has been sucked up out of the tank and into the fuel system is in the filter. I have a Permacool filter. Nothing is getting through it, including water. I plumbed in a 1/2" pickup so anything that gets NEAR the opening is going to get sucked in in and directly into the filter (I.E. there's no sock). Nothing was in there the last time I had it opened up, when I put the new pump and filter in place. The tank gets completely turned over every hour or less because it is a return system with a Holley blue pump, so most of my fuel has been filtered at least three times before the engine even sees it. There can't be anything in the return line either. I don't even bother with another filter past the pump because there is no need.
It was my understanding that the vent line went into the top of the tank and it was just a vent line. I guess I am not correct, and that the "return line" and this vent line actually connect together somewhere inside the tank.

I guess I am going to have to plumb in a real return line and a real vent. I am going to step up to 1/2" line on the return. I have 1/2" on the feed. Might as well make it match.
Maybe I can just get a vented gas cap and seal the other vent completely off. That sounds like a really simple fix. Think it will work?

I could be wrong, it's been known to happen before.. but for some reason I don't think vented gas caps are actually vented like you might think they are. Something to do with emissions laws requiring no fuel vapours running around outside of the car... at least that's what I recall.
