I'm thinking the 2 750cfm carter compatition series carbs are overkill on my big block. I'll give you the specs on the motor but -
1. about what HP do I have?
2. What is the potimum carb size for this motor?

Ok the specs- Swapped 396ci BBC
bored out to 427ci
.571/.603 cam (slightly bigger than ZL1 cam)
Ported heads
dual carb manifold
Dual 750cfm carter "compatition series" carbs (can you say overkill?)
edelbrock "Ram flow" air cleaners
aftermarket 1:7 rocker arm ratio
2 1/2 inch dual exhaust.
headers (with custom rust)
moroso chrome valve covers
accell ignition

More on cardomain in sig.

I'm off the antifreeze and the car is tipsy,

Have you looked at your spark plugs lately???

My suggestion would be to go toa single 4-bbl and it would have better throttle response, more crisp and snappy.

Those old Carter AFB 750's were great "set-it-and-forget-it" carbs but the old Ram Flow filters don't do anything for airflow.

Assuming you have oval port heads, I would suggest you look at the Edelbrock RPM Air Gap 2-O or if you want to rev it more maybe the Weiand Team G Single plane.

Check into rebuilding 1-AFB and get a Edelbrock #1480 tuning kit with the different metering rods & jets so you can dial in the fuel. Oh, don't forget to get a good air filter system that will enhance airflow and filter your Air!

As for power figures, without knowing what heads, airflow figures, all the cam specs, compression, ignition timing, etc, etc, etc. the "Air-Dyno" can be way out there!

Your combination has the potential to put out over 500 ft lbs of torque and 550 horses but if it's not tuned right, it could only do 300 ft lbs and 320 hp!

Getting right parts combination is in the details of matching everything together. You've got alot of good stuff but getting the most out of it is up to you!

Well we had a 850 double pumper on it but the engine builder said it was starving for fuel. So it was either 2 holley 500's for $1000 or 2 carter 750's for $500. This was back in 1983. Didnt have alot of cash. The compression is 11:1, and the heads are ported. And the camshaft duration is about 280* or somthing like that. I tuned the carbs so they work pretty good.

PS: the spark plugs are black.... http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/confused.gif

EDIT: rectangular port heads!!!!!!!

An RPM intake/750 carb combo would do that setup justice! http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
