How do I determine if I have a short or long water pump on my Chevy 350? Im not referring to finding it out by the year of the car but perhaps the pumps markings or size. Its a 75 Camaro but its a 73 Nova block. Also I would love to hear a perfrence on a manufacturer. Its a street motor with some good horsepower and no current overheating problems. Thanks

I don't have the measurements with me but easiest way is by looks.

The short pump will be more or less flat, have the heater hose fitting on the pass side, sticking out so it points to the side.

Long pump won't be flat. It hase humps, hills and valleys (so to speak), and the heater hose nipple or plug will be in the top of pump, pointing up and slighty back towards intake

If the alternator is attached with the lower bolt going into the front of the cylinder head and there is a power steering pump bracket attached to the opposite side of the pump, then I would say you have a long water pump.

That's usually the easiest visual indicator.

If you can fit two fingers side by side between the water pump and the timing cover, you have a long pump.
