I just got rid of my 93 Z28 LT1 6 speed for a 73 Z28. I know for sure I am going to make it a 6 speed. And I want to put a LS1 in it. What kind of money are we talking about. Stock LS1, tranny, computer, and harness out of donor car around $3500-4000. Will I need to modify the motormounts or the k member? If you know of a site that has a 2nd gen with a LS1 please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Well the biggest question is Will I need to mod the k-member, motor mounts, or tranny mounts.

I am also looking to do this swap to. I have spent alot of time on the ls1tech website and there is alot of info.
First off you will not need to modify the crossmember as long as you ditch the compressor. If you want your AC, you can either get a bracket to move it up top or notch the Cmember. I'd go with the former option but I choose to bake in the summers so I am ditching the AC.
As for motor mounts, you can either fabricate some yourself if you have to skill or get motor mount adapter plates from street and performance.(Madmike used the plates and he says they are ok)
I am yet to do more research on the transmission crossmember. However I do know that with a little modification a 350 trans member should work.
You will also need a braket to support the clutch master cylinder. This you can get from S&P.
As for the fuel part, there are many routes you can opt for. I am going to go with a supply and return set up and will use an in tank fuel pump assembly from tank inc. For this is have to use 97 corvette fuel rails.
The wiring harness is yet another beast to tackle. I will send mine to speartech and have them remove the unneccessary codes. I am atill readind up on how to do the wiring.
As far as cost....it is not cheap but it is worth it. I am after the reliability of the LS1 and mpg.
i hope this helps

Have you found anything on the type of headers that you can use with the LS1 in a second gen.

Schitzo, nice post.
I don't know of any drop in headers for 2gens yet.
I have heard that small block Ford flanges will match up well with LS1 exhaust ports. Some guys take old school 2gen headers and Ford flanges then do what they have to do to get it to work (cut, weld, etc.)
I just had the stock manifolds JetHot coated and call it a day. My objectives did not include max effort power output, so headers were not necessary in my case.
Maybe you can lay your hands on a set of Corvette LS1 exhaust manifolds. They are almost as good as any header you will use.
Here is a pic or two of the installation:

I am sure you guys know that Edelbrock has an intake ,carb and coil pack set up for the LS1 if you want to ditch the computer...
Its a great motor. I had an 02 SS and the power curve is nice.
