I have a 79 Z28 and I am debating on what to swap into it. I am down to a 383, a new GMPP Ram Jet 350, but what I really want is the Ram Jet 502 B/B but I don't know what that swap will entail. I am sure I can get it to fit, but I want to retain the factory A/C, and I afraid the passenger side of the engine (the valve cover) will not clear the evaporator casing on the firewall, what do you think?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Short valve covers clear fine.

Tall valve covers may require mods to the housing.

The hardest part of the swap is setting up a fuel system.

the hardest part for me so far is getting to work on the car. There are a couple of great threads here about the swap. I read them and now all I have to do is do it. Use the stock shells off the small block and set it right back in. Im using a short alum intake and im using the stock return line from the 350 at the fuel pump for a return system bypass fuel pressure log. My car had 3/8 line in it to feed the pump. With a lot of power you need to listen to jakeshoe and get serious with the system and put a sump in the tank. My car is going to be in cogneto, I have a 10 gallon fuel cell and a rusty trunk pan. I want my car to have a stock appearence so I am going to install the fuel cell inside my gas tank. Thats right, im taking my tank out and cutting off the top of it and letting the bottom of the fuel cell go into it. That will hide the cell and the larger fuel lines. When you look under my car it will tell nothing<SGT. SCHULTZ> Nothing!

If you get serious and don't want to tackle it yourself I do EFI retrofits and am about 4-5 hrs away from you straight up I-35.

i will fit....no problemo...just use low valve covers...the only thing that you need to keep in mind is that the air filter is to high so you will need a raised/open hood.

EvOlGrInZ (also on nastyz28) has buildt a 454 in his 77 z28....nice project ...lots of work!!!

so good luck!!

I'm not sure that intake on the Ramjet 502 will fit under a stock camamro hood. I posted a sketch of it with measurements last year, if you search for it.

the big block swap is supposed to be an easy one to do. as long as the weather stays nice im putting my 454 in on saturday. ill let you know how it goes, but there have been lots of people on here to do it. just use the search function and you will find lots of threads on it. there are just certain things you gotta make sure to get that wont swap from the sb to the bb, but old threads give lots of great details

I have done a bbc swap twice once a 70 with a/c and my 80 with no p/b or A/c. The 70 needed short covers and the header bolts are a real pain. The 80 has talls and they fit awsome. Think the biggest problem is intake clearance on the ramjet.
