CorkyE 07-28-2005, 01:42:00 AM Pushing the vacuum advance cam toward the firewall will retard timing and reduce pinging. I cringe to tell you this, especially since you are experiencing pinging and don't have a timing baseline. Borrow a timing light and find out where you really are - timing wise. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif Once timing is correct, you might find that the pinging is caused by something else. ------------------ 79 Z28 Bought new, honeymoon ride, same wife, same car. [This message has been edited by CorkyE (edited July 28, 2005).] night rider 07-28-2005, 01:43:00 AM turn can back towards the firewall. That retards the timing. Turning it toward the carb advances timing. You really need to put a timing light on it and see what you got now, then back off the timing 2*. It really don't take much turning to change the timing 2, 3 or even 4* Mwilson 07-28-2005, 08:18:00 AM try setting the total with a light at about 36 if it still pings I'd play with the advance curve before retarding the timing. |
