I am getting a new exhaust system this week on my 1980 Z-28. I want to have a deep throaty muscle car sound, how can I get that? What mufflers, size of tubing , are h-pipes needed? I need assistance on this one.

It all depends on if you still have to meet emissions standards or not.

On my 81 Z28, I removed the catalytic converter and have Flowtech headers and dual exhaust all the way back with Flowmaster Delta 40's. There is an H crossover pipe on it, too. I can't remember if I'm running 2 1/4" or 2 1/2".

I originally tried a Dynomax turbo system that kept the converter on, but was not at all happy with the way it sounded. It sounded like the stock system I took off!

Go listen to what other people are running and ask the ones you like what they have on their cars. Don't forget different engines and cams will affect the sound you get out of your system.

force mufflers sound awesome give the car a deep muscle car tone of the 70's not a tinney hollow sound like a blowmaster.

Hey Brent. If it's any help I'm using a set of FlowMaster 50 series Delta Flow(for SUV) on my '78Z. Yes, as 3SL05 says, they are a bit tinny at low Rpms. After that, they reign supreme in the noise factor in my experience. But that's my car with a carb. You see purple, others see voilet, ya know. Personally I chose performance then the noise factor. No one can really tell you, just do some more R&D on the matter. Pedal to the medal and Godseed.
