Hey guys, I was looking at this blower and was wondering what the best setup shortblock wise would be for something like this. Also what kind of heads would be best? I am looking to keep the engine price fairly cheap.

btw, the engine is going to be a SBC 350, would it be possible to have this pass CA emissions? It is a '77 Z28 that goes by federal emisions.

I dont remember which car mag did it, but they built a 142 blown vortec 350 for around 4000 bucks. put out hp in the mid 400s.

I built a 383 for mine. Frankly for a mild 350 you would be better off with the 142. Also if you have a local Advance auto parts check their pricing. THey can get them next day. I picked up my fully polished 142 for $1200 and my 177 for the same price. The 142 is great on a mild motor. I was running one in my 79 vette. The motor was a 40 over 350 with the Dart Iron eagle 165 heads. The vette ran 11:66 in the quarter with drag radials. I felt that was pretty good for a 350HP motor with a small blower and the fact the car weighed 3800 Lbs. The motor for my Z28 is a 6" rod 383 stroker. I am running a Comp solid roller it is a 590 lift. I am also running Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads. The little blower like free flowing exhaust. I would keep it simple. I would recommend a boost referenced carb. If you can buy one it is easy to modify a Holley or a Demon just let me know if you need instructions. I will also note that the vette had a Jasper motor that cost me $2600, blower $1200, Carb $700, Distrbutor $142, etc. So you can blow $4000 real quick. Not to mention that a blower motor can run hotter. In both my vette and the Z28 I had to go with big aluminum radiators, high flow water pumps, and electric fans.

thanks guys for your help, looks like i need to find out what is best for me.... i kind of want that blower sound. But it seams like it might be more trouble then it is worth.

One thing is the small blowers have almost no sound. THey do not have any of the whine the big blowers have.

says who ;) I had a 355 in my Chevelle. Just make sure you use forged pistons.

I don't think there are any CA emissions-certified roots blower setups. If you need to pass a visual it will fail the instant they pop the hood, even though it is entirely possible (and not all that difficult, actually) to make it pass the sniffer.
